Book Description
Ukraine 1915-1917. In southern Ukraine, WW1 rages and Ukraine fights for its independence from Russia. Katarina is a feisty teenager who wants to forge her own destiny. While she dreams of becoming a missionary school teacher and traveling the world, her family is determined that she follow the traditional route of marriage and motherhood. Will Katarina follow the path of Ukraine and fight for her freedom, or will she cave into her religious family’s patriarchal pressures?
Germany 1951: Katarina's adopted son, Peter, finds her journals in the war rubble — almost a decade after Germany declared her death in Ukraine during WW2. But the mysterious circumstances surrounding his finding of the wooden treasure box and her notes inside the journals makes him wonder if she is still alive. Can Peter solve the mystery surrounding Katarina's death or will he accept her death as fact?
